In the "Urban Reloaded" project, the new crowdfunding campaign focuses on the redevelopment of one of the most evocative squares in Catania: Piazza Cardinale Pappalardo, better known as Piazza Duca di Genova. One of the most significant and representative places of the city of Catania, which unfortunately today has become a car park. The square is located in the centre, in the ancient Civita area, which still hosts the heirs of the history of Catania and is surrounded by noble and religious buildings of particular historical and architectural value.
Legambiente proposes to close the square to traffic, keeping only the transit from the road that continues from via Vecchio Bastione, to eliminate the central parking, to widen the already existing flower beds and to make the ground permeable. This project is part of a large operation, proposed by the Administration of Catania, aimed to the urban permeability of Catania in order to give waters the possibility to merge and be absorbed by the ground, given climate changes and future forecasts that foresee violent downpours with a fall of cubic metres of water, which do not have time to be permeated by the ground.
The green air, with flower beds, trees and hedges - which will be created thanks to the support of our givers - will also encourage the opening of outdoor restaurants.
This will certainly create a greater viability and greater public attendance.
